Wholesaler integration platform for online stores

I built and led this system as CTO of a startup in the Hungarian IT retail market. It is a SaaS platform that lets online stores connect to wholesalers in minutes, without a developer: price, stock and product data update by themselves.

The challenge
My role

I was CTO from February 2023 to October 2024. I designed and built the system, set up and led the development team, and took part in building the server infrastructure.

A small online store owner spends most of the day updating wholesaler stock, prices and descriptions. Every wholesaler uses a different system, format and update rhythm, and following that by hand is nearly impossible.

The goal was to bring all of it into one interface, so the store owner can connect their shop themselves, without a developer, in a short time. After that the system has to run on its own.

The solution
01

One integration, many sources

Over 400 wholesalers are available immediately in a single interface, with no custom development.

02

Duplicate-free sync

Price, stock and product descriptions update automatically, and when the same product arrives from several sources the system separates the overlaps.

03

Flexible pricing

Not just a fixed margin: rules by category, brand and stock level can be applied.

04

Order handling

Orders reach the supplier with no manual step, and out-of-stock products are automatically taken off the offer.

05

Minutes to set up

Code-free setup that, in most cases, takes around an hour and a half.

06

Mixed-basket shipping

A solution built with a courier company for the dropshipping model, enabling efficient delivery even for mixed-basket orders.

Product search

Filter by category and merchant, and search by name, model, ID and manufacturer.

Sources and stores

Wholesalers (left) and web shops (right) connect through one hub, with the state of each setup step.

With brand and customer names and personal data removed (except the app store screenshots).

What makes it special

Hundreds of wholesalers, one interface

Over 400 wholesalers are available in a single integration interface, with no extra development.

Own SaaS, built for load

A custom-designed, high-load system, in Laravel, PHP and a NoSQL store.

Not just writing code

Building the team, the technology decisions and the server infrastructure were mine too, and I worked closely with the business management.

Challenges I ran into
01

Many sources, many formats

Wholesaler data had to be processed automatically, even though everyone provides something different in a different way. I mapped everything onto one product model, so the store does not care where the data comes from.

02

The same product from several sources

If a store works with several wholesalers, the same product arrives from more than one place. The system has to recognise and separate them, otherwise it ends up twice in the offer.

03

Load and architecture

I designed it for high load, so we shaped the architecture and the server infrastructure around that: Redis (Stack and Search), RabbitMQ, external CDNs, Docker.

Under the hood

Many sources, one model

Different data formats and update schedules are mapped onto a single product model, so stores work with them the same way regardless of the source.

Duplicate handling

With several wholesalers, identical products are recognised and separated, so they do not land in the offer twice.

Self-service onboarding

Setup starts from the customer interface and the back end validates and executes it, so onboarding needs no human involvement.

Parallel processing

Hundreds of sources and many stores are served at once, with reliable automatic sync.

Result

Online stores can replace hours of daily manual updates and expand their offer in minutes with products from hundreds of wholesalers. The system ran as a nationally known brand.

Would you connect a web shop to wholesalers, or build data sync?

Data from many sources in one system. I am happy to talk through how it could work for you.
